So you had a great weekend with your Daughter. Now what?

Come home to your Father and be a son. Ask Jesus for His help. That’s the secret. Your Father in Heaven already knows how all this is supposed to go and He has every angle covered. The task of raising your daughter was never intended to be done alone. To become a healthy human according to God’s brilliant design is to become a son utterly dependent on God.

Raising your daughter and trusting God’s leadership is a priceless opportunity to seek help from your Father and discover that you do, in fact, have all that you need and most want. The tested and true path to authentic manhood is being a son. Practice sonship and things will begin to change. Radically, and for the best.

Your daughter will see it and glory in it.

“Well done!” for your humility and courage in not only pursuing your daughter, but in looking to God as your Father.

In addition to some of the time-tested tips and techniques to fathering well that we discussed, I pray your heart felt invited to risk believing that maybe things are not as they seem… maybe this incredible (and impossible) task of fathering your daughter is not up to you.

There is a rescue for us when we are willing to acknowledge the difference between “real reality” and our “functional reality”.

THE TRUTH IS THIS…

God is your Father. Yes, YOUR PERFECT FATHER.

He has always been in hot pursuit of you because you are His precious son. Think about your pure and deep affection for your daughter. His affection for you is far deeper, more pure, even perfect. And anything that suggests otherwise is not reality, but instead is merely your “functional reality”.

And Christ, the world’s Savior and conquering King is also your affectionate older brother. His mission is to see you fully restored to the Father. He has settled your debts and fully redeemed you back to your Father’s house. You can boldly enter God’s presence now with Jesus right beside you. You are no longer an orphan, having to fend for yourself for wisdom, provision and protection. It’s not up to you to figure out the next step, or how to raise your daughter into a woman. God wants to teach you how to do it.

Consider just these 2 promises that should blow our minds:

“I will not leave you as orphans; 

I will come to you.”

-John 14:18

and

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way that you should go.

I will guide you with my loving eye.”
-Psalm 32:8

What goodness and freedom will be yours as you learn to more fully live into these Kingdom-realities!

It’s meant to set you free. He will be a Father to you in the most intimate and helpful ways. This is the Good News! We are rescued. This is why Jesus came.

As God’s son, how then should we live?

By faith we must choose to live differently now, not as those who have no hope but as those who are securely united to Christ. The Spirit of “sonship” cannot casually replace the spirit of orphanhood we have operated out of all our lives. We must take risks to discover that God is truly our Father who will always be there to catch us. In all our messes, He is here with us, our Emmanuel.

The difficulties and questions we’ve so long avoided have now become the trailheads that lead us to discover the Truth. And we are only set free by the truth we know, not the truth we don’t know.

So pour out your heart to Him. Include all you are feelings, thoughts, wants and needs. Then frequently practice this most powerful three word prayer:

“Father, father me.”

This has been like a secret password for me.

Coupled with faith and courage, this prayer will lead you into the life of adventure you and your daughter are made for, being fathered together by your perfect Father.
